Direct tv scam
There is a guy calling people claiming to be a representative of direct TV. He is asking for your bank account information. My grandmother received this call twice. The fist time she was not naive enough to give him this information. A few days later the direct TV installer was present at the time of the call. She told him to hold on and she would let him speak to the installer. He quickly said "oh no, no I'm sorry I have the wrong number" and hung up. Please don't become a victim of this scam. I think they are trying to scam the elderly community.
Money gram money order scams
I received three money gram money orders all dated 01/09/09 through regular mail . They were all for the amount of $950.00 each. I called money gram and they were all counterfeit. I knew they were but confirmed it anyway so I could report the number on the money orders. These money orders did not come with a letter instructing you what to do with them like most of the scams I have read about there was no return address on the envelope it was just postmarked from Buffalo, NY.
The payee section of the money order was not filled in either. If you receive any of these do not try to cash them you could be arrested and be responsible for the repayment of the funds. I don't really understand the purpose of these money orders except for maybe the scammers are trying to direct the heat from themselves onto someone else. Something needs to be done with these scammers.
